WebDec 27, 2007 · Our first backhoe was a 79 580C. What you're looking at might be similar. If I recall correctly, there was a choice between a dry clutch, and a "power shuttle". I can't say for certain, but I'd bet that what you're calling a "shuttle" is a dry clutch, with a forward and reverse shifter, and a 4-speed transaxle behind that.

Not knowing what model you have my inclination is (1) fluid is too thin /viscosity too low when warm, or (2) foot or electric dump valve is leaking or solenoid is hanging up, or (3) leaking o-rings in shuttle shift block which would leak more with warm fluid.

While I was at full speed in 3rd took my foot off the foot throttle while I moved the shuttle lever to neutral, depressed clutch, shifted to 4th, shuttle lever to forward and back to throttle.
